Old Smokey Electric Smoker

September 12, 2016 by Rahul Verma Leave a Comment

The Old Smokey Electric Smoker uses the same type of heating element as an electric oven. A tray for wood chips is placed over the heating element to initiate the smoking process. The smoker has two cooking levels and a drip pan to catch all the juices. The flat top design allows for interior condensation to drip back down through the food and the top seals tightly for temperature control and better penetration of smoke. The small size makes it suitable for a variety of living situations, from apartments to stand alone homes.

Reasonable price

At approximately $125, the Old Smokey Electric Smoker is a good entry level electric smoker. At this price you do sacrifice some of the bells and whistles of the higher priced models, but for basic smoking capabilities, this is a good value.

Ideal for small kitchens

The smoker weighs about 25 pounds and is 15.5″w x 15.5″d x 29″h. Its compact size and barrel shaped design allow for use in small kitchens and patios and it’s easily stored when not in use. Capacity-wise, the two racks stack vertically and can hold about 13 burgers.

Temperature

The Old Smokey Electric Smoker does not come with a temperature gauge, but you can add one for a small additional charge and have it installed into the device before shipment. The thermostat operates much like small kitchen appliances with high, medium and low settings, so if specific temperature control is important to you, please factor this into your choice.

Specifics

A pan is included, but this smoker is specifically designed for a dry smoke. You may use water, but it is not recommended. The temperature does not reach more than 250, making this a perfect solution for fish, sausages, nuts and cheese. If you prefer a deep bark and smoke ring on your meats, this product is not what you’re looking for as the electric heating element just doesn’t reach the threshold necessary to create that texture.
